Josep Gispert and the Catalan tenor shawm

My good friend Josep Gispert, who has been Catalan tenor shawn soloist of the Principal de la Bisbal for the past 28 years, will officially retire at the end of the 2010 season.

Josep Gispert i Vila, native of Púbol (Baix Empordà), received his higher musical education at the Liceo Conservatory. He has been part of the musical groups la Moderna (de la Bisbal), la Principal de Llagostera, la Principal de Girona, los Montgrins and the Principal de la Bisbal. He also currently teaches at the Isaac Albéniz Conservatory of Girona and the Conrad Saló Music School of La Bisbal d'Empordà.

In recent years he has been first tenor horn soloist of the Cobla and String Symphony Orchestra of Catalonia, the symphonic orchestra inspired by Metalquimia and the Lagares family of Besalú.

Without any doubt, from now on, his name and figure will join other legendary tenor horn players of our Country, such as Albert Martí, Josep Coll and Ricard Viladesau.

Josep, with all our hearts, the squares of Catalonia and all of us will miss the beautiful sound of your tenor horn, but we hope to continue enjoying, for many years to come, your company and friendship!!!
