Youth, Culture and Other Dreams
Last Thursday, February 25th, I had the good fortune of attending the presentation in Aragón of the Prince of Girona Foundation in the Auditorium of the University of Zaragoza.
This presentation was presided by Their Royal Highnesses the Prince and Princess of Girona, and in his intervention, Prince Felipe emphasized that the Prince of Girona Foundation aims to "collaborate in the best education of our young people, act as a forum of reflection and promote projects of a social nature in the broadest sense", pointing out that young people are one of the sectors that suffer most the impact of unemployment brought about by the serious economic crisis we are undergoing and therefore "advancement of the capabilities and skills of our young people -their drive and leadership- must be one of our clearest and greatest commitments".
To bring the act to a close, the Professor of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology of the University of Oviedo, Carlos López Otín, gave a magisterial lesson (I would say much more than magisterial) with the title "Youth, Culture and Other Dreams", from which I have extracted a number of "power thoughts" I would like to share with all of you:
- Nothing is possible without individual effort
- Genetics is shaped by epigenetics
- By teaching the value of solidarity, we spread it to all corners of the planet
- We must always ask ourselves ...what makes us human?
- The Universe (the Cosmos) and microcosms have equivalent symmetries
- Tomorrow is always late ...don't be in a hurry, don't stop !!
- We must help give shape to young people's dreams, even though they don't coincide exactly with our own
...and many other thoughts that in the end all come down to one ... the more we get to know and reveal the codes and secrets of the Universe, the closer we get to the Intelligence that created them !!
